CLAUDE WATERMARK REMOVER · CALLBACK TEST

Does a file-read error clear the existing text?

No. A simulated rejected file read changes the status to an error but retains the earlier source and result. Do not mistake retained text for the failed file contents.

Tested 28 October 2026 · Synthetic fixtures · Minimal DOM

What the test establishes

The setup first produces a known result, then makes the next text method reject. Both fields remain populated. The catch branch reports that the file could not be read without assigning an empty value. Keeping previous content can protect work, but it also means a populated result is not proof that the latest file was processed.

Reproduce the observation

Save tested-app.js and reproduce.cjs together, then run node reproduce.cjs. Compare its output with the recorded observation. The harness executes the actual homepage callback in a minimal DOM and records its resulting field values and method calls. File-like objects and clipboard responses are controlled substitutes. Runtime: v24.22.1. No submitted text or genuine Claude output is used.

Capability boundary

The rejection is injected locally and does not diagnose a damaged real file or browser permission setting. The handler uses the same message for exceptions reached in its try block. Retain your original file and retry independently; this test cannot identify which operating-system condition caused a real read failure.

This Claude watermark remover edits a small selected character set. These callback observations do not establish authorship, detector scores, statistical-watermark removal or end-to-end browser behavior. For real work, keep the original and compare the exact result at its destination.

Primary material and next step

The tested first-party source snapshot and complete harness are the primary material for this page. For broader scope, read invisible Unicode versus AI watermarks, or return to the cleaner.
